A Poem

This is a poem Angela kept under her pillow along with a photo of Fidget. Don’t Let Go As I sat in the corner, Curled up in a rug, I longed for a someone To give me a hug. I gazed out the window With tear stained eyes, Just staring at the moon And the star filled skies. The moon had a brighness Which shone on the sea, Wherever it travelled Or where it might be. Just as I sat there, Following the moon, I saw it no longer And the sky turned to gloom. A cloud had swept over And blinded the light A moon-lit sky Was no longer in sight. But just as I waited, The cloud had moved on, The moon was still shining Though I thought it had gone. I longed for a someone Who always would be A light in my heart Like that moon on sea. Whatever I felt like Wherever I’d be This light would be shining Forever in me. As I sat in that corner I thought of a friend, Who said He’d be near me Right up to the end, But where is He now When I need him the most I feel far away When He should be close. As I sat in my corner I heard a voice “My child”, He said You gave me no choice I tried to come closer When I saw you alone Instead you insisted To let me go! © Gwyneth Chambers (1993)
